    We have an opportunity for a Heavy Equipment Mechanic. The Heavy Equipment Mechanic repairs and maintains heavy construction vehicles and equipment such as backhoes, mini trackhoes, hydro excavators, air brake trailers, lowboys, Class 6, 7 and 8 trucks, other heavy equipment and light trucks.  This position is responsible for keeping trucks and equipment in good working order to maximize equipment performance and minimize downtime.

    Responsibilities

    • Inspect and troubleshoot vehicles and heavy equipment to diagnose malfunctions.
    • Repair engines, automatic and standard transmissions, clutch, suspension, differentials, generator systems, pumps and electrical systems of vehicles. 
    • Diagnose and repair computerized control systems, ignition systems, power steering and cooling systems.
    • Repair, adjust and replace brake systems including hydraulic and air brakes.
    • Disassemble and assemble vehicles and equipment parts using lifts, hand tools and various other instruments.
    • Perform routine maintenance on vehicles and equipment.
    • Makes recommendations concerning repair or replacement of vehicles and equipment.
    • Prepare and maintain inventory of supplies and equipment.
    • Responds to requests for repairs, scheduled and unscheduled in a timely fashion.
    • Does repair work in the field, as well as in the shop.
    • Responsible for insuring that service truck is well stocked with necessary items to effectively repair trucks and equipment in the field when necessary.
    • Provides leadership as a Shift Lead to shop mechanics.
    • Trains others in the proper methods and processes to perform equipment repair, inspection and preventative maintenance.
    • Maintain maintenance repair records, utilizing paper files and electronic maintenance software.
    • Clean, maintain and organize equipment, tools, and the general work area.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    • Must be highly skilled in working with a variety of vehicles, heavy equipment and other smaller vehicles with knowledge of electrical and hydraulic systems, engine repair, clutch work, differentials, etc. to sufficiently accomplish the essential duties above.
    • Troubleshooting
    • Ability to weld using MIG, TIG and stick methods.
    • Work requires professional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to participate in group meetings.
    • Work requires willingness to work a flexible schedule.
    • Bi-lingual English/Spanish preferred.
    • Minimum of CDL class B driver’s license.  Must be willing to obtain CDL A in 60 days.
    • Must have own tools to complete job duties and responsibilities.
    • Minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent.
    • Vocational training in Heavy Duty Equipment preferred.
    • At least 5-7 years’ experience working as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic.
    • Journeyman mechanic preferred.
    • Ability to pass a drug and background screening.
