    This person should have knowledge of pipe fitting, plumbing and or the HVAC trade and have the aptitude to learn gas meter responsibilities through hands on supervised training within 30 days. He/She should have the ability to resolve problems and make timely decisions on a daily basis. They should constantly strive to obtain maximum productivity, economical use of time, tools, equipment and material. This person works under the direction of Meter Foremen, Meter Supervisors and Meter Superintendent performing physical activities in support of completing meter exchanges, meter support for construction crews, meter move outs and associated piping, meter testing and other related gas meter work. This person is able to trouble shoot, manage challenging jobs and naturally shares our core values.

    Responsibilities

    • Working safely is a condition of employment
    • Meeting client Standards related to gas meter work is a condition of employment
    • Material handling - Loads and unloads materials, tools, and equipment onto and from trucks by hand
    • Install gas meters, regulation, piping and pipe fitting work with black iron pipe
    • Gas leak repair to above ground meter sets
    • Keeping legible hand-written accurate records including daily work logs and installation records
    • Assist crew in construction/ reconstruction and maintenance work providing meter support
    • Work safely around customer houses and private property.
    • Clean and prepare worksites to eliminate possible hazards
    • Monitor tools and equipment for proper use, maintenance and inspect for possible abuse
    • Perform other duties as assigned
    • Measure, cut, and thread pipes to specifications, using tools such as saws, pipe threaders, or pipe benders.
    • Inspect, examine, or test installed systems or pipe lines, using pressure gauge, observation, or other methods.
    • Plan pipe system layout, installation, or repair, according to specifications.
    • Attach pipes to walls, structures, or fixtures, such as radiators or tanks, using brackets, clamps, tools, or welding equipment.
    • Select pipe sizes, types, or related materials, such as supports or hangers, according to specifications.
    • Cut or bore holes in structures, such as bulkheads, decks or walls prior to pipe installation, using hand or power tools.
    • Shut off gases from pipe sections, using valve keys or wrenches.
    • Remove and replace worn components.
    • Interface directly with customers and provide a high degree of satisfaction and confidence that accurate measurement is taking place.

    Qualifications

    • Must be a licensed Master plumber
    • Ability to help in general metering and construction activities
    • English usage sufficient to keep records, place orders, and prepare simple narrative reports
    • Understand and carry out oral and written instructions written and spoken in English
    • Ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods, often under adverse weather conditions. 
    • Ability to lift up to 80 lbs. multiple times during a work shift
    • Ability to climb, dig, work in tight spaces, on uneven surfaces, walking, stooping and kneeling
    • Ability to work well independently and as a part of a team working well with co-workers
    • Ability to pass motor vehicle, criminal background check, and comply with drug-free workplace policy
    • Willingness and ability to learn additional skills
    • Ability to work full time 40 or more hours per week with various start and stop times

     

    Education & Experience

    • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
    • Licensed/Journeyman/Master Plumber
    • Black iron piping and appliance relighting experience desired
    • Previous experience working with underground utilities is a plus
