These services include a wide variety of distribution/mainline construction, roustabout, gas operations and maintenance, and meter/system interface services.  SiteWise service offerings are enhanced by additional departments dedicated to utility locating, hydro excavation, subsurface utility engineering and route mapping. 


A Gas Meter Technician should have knowledge of pipe fitting, plumbing and/or the HVAC trade and have the aptitude to learn gas meter responsibilities through hands on supervised training within 90 days. A Meter Tech should have the ability to resolve problems and make timely decisions on a daily basis. A Gas Meter Technician works under the direction of Meter Foremen, Meter Supervisors and Meter Superintendent performing physical activities in support of completing meter exchanges, meter support for construction crews, meter move outs and associated piping, meter testing and other related gas meter work.


  • Material handling - Loads and unloads materials, tools, and equipment onto and from trucks by hand
  • Install gas meters, regulation, piping and pipe fitting work with black iron pipe
  • Gas leak repair including above ground meter sets
  • Keeping legible hand written accurate records including daily work logs and installation records
  • Assist crew leaders in construction/ reconstruction and maintenance work providing meter support
  • Work safely around customer houses and private property, backhoes, excavators, and directional drills
  • Clean and prepare meter worksites to eliminate possible hazards
  • Monitor tools and equipment for proper use, maintenance and inspect for possible abuse
  • Perform other duties as assigned


  • Ability to lead others to help in general metering and construction activities
  • English usage sufficient to keep records, place orders, and prepare simple narrative reports
  • Understand and carry out oral and written instructions written and spoken in English
  • Ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods, often under adverse weather conditions. 
  • Ability to lift up to 80 lbs. multiple times during a work shift
  • Ability to climb, dig, work in tight spaces, on uneven surfaces, walking, stooping and kneeling
  • Ability to work well independently and as a part of a team working well with co-workers
  • Ability to pass motor vehicle, criminal background check, and comply with drug-free workplace policy
  • Willingness and ability to learn additional skills
  • Ability to work full time 40 or more hours per week with various start and stop times
  • Plumbing and black iron piping experience desired

    Previous experience working with underground utilities is a plus

  • Bilingual ability in Spanish/English is a plus

Suggested- 3 year plumbing aprenticeship or experience with plumbing/HVAC installation/repair work.
