Overview

SiteWise Corporation, a Colorado owned and operated utility contractor, has provided turnkey construction and engineering services since 1987. These services include a wide variety of distribution/mainline construction, gas operations and maintenance, and meter/system interface services.  SiteWise service offerings are enhanced by additional departments dedicated to utility locating, hydro excavation, subsurface utility engineering and route mapping. 

 

We have an opportunity for a Technical Training Manager in our Safety, Quality and Training department. The ideal candidate will provide technical and strategic expertise in the management and execution of training specific to gas compliance and technical training.   He or she will coordinate efforts to develop processes and procedures to fulfill regulatory requirements, customer gas standards and Company policy. He or she will be responsible for managing a training staff that will be conducting field and administrative based compliance assessments, ensuring adherence to all codes and standards. The successful candidate should have experience in developing technical training curricula related to construction, preferably in the Utility Industry.

Responsibilities

  • Develops training curricula for safety, quality and technical natural gas construction and maintenance compliance.
  • Oversees Company’s Operator Qualification program, and required monthly compliance reporting to internal and external leadership teams.
  • Manages and oversees certified performance evaluators (OQ)
  • Oversees personnel needs of the training department including selecting, coaching, disciplining and training employees and evaluating employee performance.   Provides input into the termination, compensation and promotion decisions.
  • Conducts field and office compliance assessments of Company personnel to ensure adherence to all PHMSA, DOT. and Company standards and policies.
  • Reviews Company documents and records to ensure documentation is being captured, stored, reviewed and disposed of properly.
  • Works with the gas operating departments to identify compliance risks and develop both short- and long-term solutions. Identifies opportunities for improvement and develops solutions to operational challenges.
  • Ensures compliance standards are incorporated into Company policies and processes. Addresses and incorporates new standards as necessary to promote and ensure compliance.
  • Communicate with Company personnel at every level to maintain understanding and knowledge of Company requirements, expectations and updates. Creates and maintains contact with other departments, requesting information, providing suggestions, offering alternatives and assistance.
  • Monitor key operational data to quantify compliance and progress.
  • Ascertains internal best practices among field operations to strategically implement benefits system-wide.
  • Tracks, analyzes and dashboards to communicate key performance metrics.
  • Follows Company policies and practices while professionally representing SiteWise in interactions.
  • Plan and/or lead the implementation of any developed solutions and track results.
  • Balance multiple projects and initiatives simultaneously.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of:

    • Experience in the Utility Industry, either with a Utility and/or contractor or similar environment is a plus.

    Skills & Abilities:

    • Respected as an operational improvement resource, consultant and partner; not an adversary.
    • Good communicator, seeing value in developing expectations and practices supported by written policies and procedures.
    • Ability to develop and prepare training presentations and present technical training materials
    • Ability to use a personal computer and software such as email, Excel spreadsheets, word processing, presentation creation.
    • Must be able to multi-task, be self-motivated, thrive in a fast-paced environment, challenge status quo and ask why, and work with limited supervision.
    • Performs detail oriented tasks using advanced math and analysis skills

    Success/Goals:

    • 3-6 months – Has created a dashboard specific to Training including Key Performance Indicators as developed with the Director of SQT
    • 6-12 months – Has developed service agreements, reporting formats and recommendations to field operations leadership.
    • 6-12 months – Has developed training curriculums for operations technical performance strategy and review structure for the executive team.
    • 12-18 months –Develop and implement a formal Process Improvement Plan which should include productivity targets, margin improvement, specific goals and milestones. The Plan should also address function-by-function process improvement opportunities.

     

    Education & Experience:

     

    • Bachelor’s degree, engineering or related field work, or a combination of education and experience providing equivalent knowledge.
    • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the gas utility industry is required, preferably in the natural gas transmission or distribution operations, audit services or regulatory compliance functions.
    • Knowledge of regulations and rules including federal and state DOT Pipeline Safety Regulations.
    • Excellent organizational, writing, presentation and interpersonal skills
